Maybe I'm preaching to the choir when I tell you that we have some truly impressive furniture in our warehouse.

But among all the approximately 1,500 pieces of furniture— sofas , armchairs , daybeds , and sideboards —I still find something that overwhelms me. Even though I go through our inventory almost daily!

Thonet S 847 – cream-colored leather chair — A chair like a poem: The Thonet S 847

The Thonet S 847 grabbed me and wouldn't let go.

At first, I didn't understand what exactly I was so drawn to. Perhaps the color combination of cream-colored leather upholstery, pleasantly warm wood, and silver metal feet?

Or perhaps the accentuated shapes , the unique arrangement of triangular and square surfaces? The S 847 consists of a square seating area, which – strictly separated – sits atop a pyramid-shaped frame.

But that wasn't the reason. I first had to research what other secrets the design conceals. And then it dawned on me: the entire design is reminiscent of a car body ! And that's no coincidence, because that's exactly how designer Lepper Schmidt Sommerlade intended it in his 2006 design. It is defined by "formal analogies to automotive design, transferred by Thonet to the material wood." This explains why the chair sits in the room like a small coupé : clearly contoured on the outside, softly upholstered on the inside. Overall, the S 847 embodies a warm retro look that recalls the golden years of the automobile.

Furthermore, the combination of a hard outer shell and a soft inner part touches on the notions of durability and trust —but equally stands for coziness and individual comfort : a shell-and-heart architecture that blends seamlessly into a wide variety of interiors. The swivel function makes the chair a perfect companion for relaxed conversations.

Thonet's promise of durability means moving away from disposable furniture and toward things that last . This aligns with my personal beliefs and the philosophy of Revive .
