Introducing: Draenert!
Actually, you don't need much for a good company history: in the case of Draenert, a stone, a bit of chrome, and a pretty good idea.
The company was founded in 1968 by Karin and Peter Draenert on Lake Constance. And in fact, the story begins with a coincidence: Peter Draenert discovered a slab of oil shale with fossilized snails and shells in a farmer's backyard in the Swabian Alb. Originally, he just wanted to build a table for himself out of it. That is how the Primus was born, the first Draenert table and nowadays a true classic.
From this first design, a brand developed that is still known today particularly for its natural stone tables. Incidentally, the Primus is still part of the range (and we even have one in the Revive warehouse right now!).
And at Draenert, natural stone is not just a material; over the years, it has become a true trademark of the brand. This is complemented by traditional craftsmanship and a high degree of vertical integration from their own workshop. And designs with quite sophisticated mechanics. The fact that Draenert continuously collaborates with renowned designers and architects actually fits the picture quite well.
And I admit it: I generally find family-run businesses more appealing. And when a company—like Draenert—has held onto its core idea for decades while still remaining contemporary, I find that quite impressive.
Peter Draenert's motivation for many designs was also movement. For him, function was never the opposite of good design, but an integral part of it. You can still see this in many designs today. A beautiful example of this is the ADLER, which we also currently have: the dining table can be enlarged by an additional leaf that rises from the inside of the table. I would say that is exactly what is typical for Draenert: solid materials combined with technology that feels surprisingly effortless.
And then there is the workshop itself. To this day, manufacturing takes place on Lake Constance, where many craft disciplines come together: master stonemasons, carpenters, locksmiths, painters, and upholsterers work there, just as assembly, and metal and glass work are also part of production. In addition, there is an in-house stone park with natural stone varieties from all over the world. Today, Dr. Patric Draenert leads the family business in the second generation. Not much has changed in the original idea: high-quality materials, timeless design, and refined technology.
