Brandtroducing: Fritz Hansen!

Fritz Hansen – what a name! And the consistency that comes with it is still embodied by the brand today at the highest level.

It all began in 1872 in Copenhagen , when carpenter Fritz Hansen and his son Christian developed a small production facility from their shared workshop. Early on, the company experimented with new manufacturing methods, such as steam bending wood. This resulted in lighter, stable forms that were impressive in use and characterized by long-lasting durability. From this philosophy—sound construction, precise craftsmanship, and everyday practicality —the brand gradually grew into the modern era, always remaining true to Danish aesthetics .

The Fritz Hansen brand is inseparable from a very specific name: Arne Jacobsen . The architect and star designer had a particularly spatial mindset, designing furniture not as mere decoration, but as a functional component of the architecture. In the late 1950s, he planned the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen as a cohesive whole. The building's austere, clear exterior called for comfort and a human touch within its interior. He found an ingenious solution in the form of furniture!

This is how the Egg was born: a curved shell that's not just a place to sit, but a small space—a room within a room . Jacobsen developed the form through wire and plaster models before it was ready for series production. Designed in 1958, the Egg dominated the hotel lobby and remains contemporary today because it combines both: a place to retreat without isolation and a soft form that calms the space.

Today, things have come full circle: Under the name ReNEW , Fritz Hansen bundles programs like Refurbish, Repair, and Recrafted, which keep furniture in circulation – with spare parts, repairs, and certified refurbishment, even for classic models. This is not only sustainable, but also sensible : good pieces remain in use, gaining a longer history and losing none of their quality.
