Brand introducing: WK Wohnen!
At Revive, we want to revolutionize the furniture market – interestingly, the idea itself is not new.
The "German Workshops for Interior Design" (WK = Interior Design) were founded as early as 1912 – more than a hundred years ago. This makes WK Wohnen a truly traditional company! The goal was "to create interior furnishings that are not based on empty appearances and do not imitate the rich and magnificent in an unsound manner," according to the founder, master carpenter Karl Schmidt from Dresden.
The aim was to promote a general understanding of modern , quality-oriented furnishings by educating the public. At Revive , we are proud to stand in this tradition. With our free repair guides and our blog , we contribute to more people understanding their furniture – that's our understanding of sustainability !
Incidentally, the current managing director, Kai Braßel, emphasizes that WK Wohnen predates the Bauhaus : the latter wasn't founded until 1919. At the same time, WK Wohnen was later occasionally inspired by the Bauhaus style. The key difference: instead of industrial mass production, individual taste is paramount at WK Wohnen.
Exclusive designs like the first modular furniture system, "WKS Constructa," in 1952 made history . In 1958, the company received a great honor: it was awarded a certificate of merit at the Brussels World's Fair for its contribution. During the 1950s, WK was considered one of the brands that significantly shaped German interior design and set new standards in furniture design – a pioneer of modern living.
At WK Wohnen, we are dealing with an elegant combination of tradition and innovation, of continuity and progress . The complete WK archive was even acquired by the State Museum of Applied Arts in Munich – explicitly for the scholarly research of design and interior design history!
At WK Wohnen, modular living units are the focus. They adapt to modern lifestyles without compromising on quality or design. Modularity offers the freedom to customize furniture to personal space and individual needs. This allows for maximum use of available space, as existing modules can be easily expanded or reconfigured. This saves resources and is therefore also an expression of sustainability.
Incidentally, WK furniture is highly sought after by connoisseurs today as mid-century design and has long been a hidden classic : internationally, it's mostly traded as vintage – but here, it's lovingly restored and not museum-worthy. Just in time for its centenary in 2012, the traditional brand was acquired by the Musterring company and relaunched.
Below this blog post, I've compiled my personal highlights from WK Wohnen. This premium furniture brand for creative interior designers with the highest standards offers a wide range of products: sofas, armchairs, sideboards, and tables are all part of the collection. If that's not enough for you, you'll find much more in our new arrivals section .
